Description:

This is a magnificent opportunity to get to know the unique floating islands on the highest lake in the world (Uros). You’ll also tour the most traditional places in Puno, sailing across the famous Lake Titicaca. We’ll visit the Islands of Amantani and Taquile, observing families living permanently on the floating islands, engaging in their social, economic, and cultural activities.

Day 01: PUNO – UROS – AMANTANI

After having breakfast, we’ll start the respective pick-up from your hotel at 08:00 am to head to the port and board a motorized boat. After a 45-minute journey, we’ll enter the beautiful floating islands of Uros, constructed by locals with reeds growing in the lake. We’ll tour different islands; here, you can purchase handmade products. Then, we’ll continue the journey to Amantani Island, where passengers will be accommodated in family homes for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll share experiences with the islanders, who, despite time and modernity, still preserve their ancestral clothing and customs.

M&R Travel Recommendations – Machupicchu Expeditions

If you’re planning a trip to Cusco, it’s important to be prepared to make the most of every experience, whether you’re taking day tours or multi-week expeditions. Here are some key recommendations:

  1. Acclimatization: Cusco sits at over 3,300 m.a.s.l. (10,800 ft). To avoid altitude sickness, we recommend resting on your first day, staying hydrated, and drinking coca or muña tea.
  2. Proper Clothing: Cusco’s weather varies by season. Bring layered clothing, a rainproof jacket for unexpected showers, and comfortable walking shoes.
  3. Required Documents: To enter Machu Picchu, you must carry your passport or ID. If you’re a student, a valid student ID may grant you ticket discounts.
  4. Tickets & Reservations: Machu Picchu and other attractions require advance tickets. Book early, especially during peak season (May to September).
  5. Sun Protection: Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. UV radiation in Cusco and the Peruvian highlands is intense.
  6. Cash & Payments: While many places accept cards, it’s best to carry cash in soles (PEN) for small expenses, especially in markets or rural communities.
  7. Respect for Culture & Environment: Cusco and its surroundings hold immense historical and natural value. Follow site regulations, avoid littering, and respect local traditions.
  8. Trust the Experts: For the best experience, book with specialized agencies like M&R Machupicchu Expeditions, offering tours designed for all types of travelers—ensuring quality, safety, and unforgettable adventures.

By following these tips, you’ll be ready to enjoy the magic of Cusco and its breathtaking destinations with the best preparation. We can’t wait to explore with you!
